Family Tree

Summary:

This short activity was made for 2nd However it can be used for anyone level who is familiar with words to describe their family (grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, aunt, uncle, daughter, son, grand-daughter, grand-son and cousin). Step 1: Students will make groups of 4-5 students (depending on the size of the class). Step 2: Hand out materials. Each group receives a blank family tree worksheet and an envelop with 17 cut out squares in each. On these squares are various clues to where each person belongs on the family tree. For example “Toru: I have 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson”. Step 3: After all the students have received all the materials, the ALT instructs them to start at the same time. You can time them or allow them to work at their own pace. It took my second year students about 15-20mins. Step 4: Award the first group to get the family tree in the correct order Step 5: Allow others to continue working or go over the correct order with the class. year students considering the family tree is in their textbooks.
